Today, we know that there exist electrons, nucleons and other so-called "elementary particles". Although we have discovered several levels of reality, we are still hoping that the "pealing of the onion" is not endless. We are ready to believe that the "stuff" our Universe is made of has actually a discrete structure. The collective unconscious does not cherish very much the idea of an infinite regression.
